Why Washington?

BROWNE FAMILY VINEYARDS & P.F. CHANG'S

BY: TATUM SNODGRASS | NOVEMBER 7, 2017

Our latest wine project, “Project Walla Walla,” was a passion project for Browne Family Vineyards Founder, Andrew Browne, and P.F. Chang’s Beverage Director, Mary Melton, who share a mutual love of bringing people together with good food and good wine.

This year, we introduced two new wines that were beautifully blended for the unique characteristics of the P.F. Chang’s menu. It was a true partnership, with Mary bringing her knowledge of Asian food and wine pairings, and Andrew adding his expertise on Washington wines.

Columbia Valley is where the grapes for these wines were grown. This area of Washington has been primed through years of floods, volcanoes, and wind to be the fruitful source for grape growing that it is today. Near the small town of Walla Walla and east of the Cascade Mountains, it’s dry & sunny, unlike rainy Seattle. Notably the most important aspect of this region is the strong winds from the Cascades that keep the vines dry so the grapes form thick fruit skins. Grapes with thick skins have high concentration, vibrant color, and robust flavor.

You’ll taste these flavors and more in our two new wine blends, only available at P.F. Chang’s restaurants.
